Al-Huda Community

Al-Huda High School is part of the broader Dar-Us-Salaam community, which is located deep in the city of College Park.  We serve the educational, social, spiritual, and financial needs of the Muslim community in the Greater Washington D.C Metropolitan area.  Under the Dar-Us-Salaam umbrella, we have a charity foundation, an accredited pre-school to high school, a part-time and full time Qur’an Hifz (Memorization) school, a social service office, a publishing branch, a newspaper, an Islamic Information Center for non-Muslims, and a karate dojo.  Al-Huda Elementary, Middle and High school are accredited by the Middle States Association. Their website: https://www.msa-cess.org/. The 700+ students enrolled at Al-Huda School and Al Huda Global combined are culturally diverse with a population that is approximately 56% African/African American, 23% Arab +Asian, 13% Caucasian, 8% Other or Declined.

Al-Huda High School

Al-Huda High school is a college preparatory four-year private Muslim high school enrolling 153 students in grades 9 through 12.  The high school classes are separated based on gender with an average student to teacher ratio of 11:1. Since most of our students are classified as underrepresented especially in advanced placement programs, our small classroom size allows teachers the ability to address student weaknesses and strengths.  Al-Huda High school opened in 2007, with the first senior class graduating in spring 2011. The high school was re-accredited from the Middle States Association Committee on Institution Wide Accreditation in December 2015. We received recommendation for renewal in 2023.

Al-Huda Global School – Distance Learning Program

Al-Huda Global School is Al-Huda School’s distance learning program that is offered to grades 9-12 globally to achieve a US High School diploma. We have an average student to teacher ratio of 20:1 in our distance learning program. Our program offers a rigorous curriculum that prepares students academically, intellectually, and emotionally, as they enter their college life. Al-Huda Global school started in 2020, with the first senior class graduating in Spring 2024. The high school received its accreditation in April 2023.

Our Curriculum

The academic program is organized on a traditional schedule of six to seven 50-minute classes.  Courses are yearlong and are broken into 2 semesters with 2 quarters per semester.  All high school students have to take a midterm exam and a cumulative final exam that counts for 20% of their overall final grade.  Each course’s cumulative final exam spans the knowledge gained over the entire year.  This policy was implemented to help prepare students for the rigors of college’s cumulative final exams.

AP® courses are taken by Al-Huda High School students in their 11th and 12th grade year.  We offer AP® U.S. Government, AP® English Language & Composition, AP® Calculus AB,  and AP® Biology.

Al-Huda High School does not offer courses that are identified as Honors or Gifted/Talented.  Because of our small class size, teachers differentiate and integrate many strategies that address all student-learning needs.

Many of our highly motivated students in their sophomore, junior, and senior year enroll in college freshmen courses and earn college credits at local institutions of higher education.

What sets our school apart from others is the basis of the curriculum which is heavily influenced by the teachings of honesty, charity, respect, and modesty. High moral character is encouraged as defined in our religion and cultural heritage. It is this basis that both enhances and guides the education of the student, and promotes excellence. Students are taught to always peer through the lens of their identity in whatever subject they study. The nurturing environment that looks out for the emotional and spiritual well being of the student provides the firm ground on which the student can grow with confidence.

Advanced Placement Results

Al Huda School first implemented the AP program in 2009.  Al-Huda teachers and students worked very hard in ensuring maximum success on the AP® exam.  Teachers not only set-up after school study sessions, but they also set-up weekend and holiday study sessions.  After our first year’s success, we offered 3 more AP® courses (English Language & Composition, Calculus AB, and Biology) to our senior class in addition to the U.S. Government course offered to the juniors. As stated earlier, AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) was introduced to much success.

Many of our students come from a low socio-economic background. Many of them are also from underrepresented ethnic groups.  Because of this and because of our small classroom size, AP® exams are all optional (except the AP English).  All juniors and seniors enrolled at Al-Huda High School are encouraged to take the 4 core AP® courses offered in addition to the other graduation requirements mentioned above.
