fun activities for students
Juggling academic responsibilities, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments can leave students feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Amidst the whirlwind of assignments, exams, and deadlines, it is easy to forget the importance of taking breaks and engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation.

As the academic year progresses, the pressure intensifies, making self-care even more crucial. Regular breaks and stress-relieving fun activities for students can not only boost their mood and energy levels but also enhance their focus and productivity by preventing a burnout.

Students are often so indulged in academics that they forget that it is okay to take a break when needed. Students or not, we often forget to listen to our bodies. And by the time the body begins to have a breakdown, we are so deep in that the responsibilities feel like a heavy boulder on our shoulders. To prevent extremes of stress, take a deep breath, pause and tell yourself that it is indeed okay to take time to de-stress.

Here are five fun activities that can help busy students de-stress, unwind, and rediscover the joy of learning:

1. Unleash Your Creativity

Creativity is an innate human trait that often gets stifled amidst the demands of academic life. Dedicate at least half an hour each day to explore your creative passions. It can be writing stories, baking delicious treats, designing graphics, or painting vibrant landscapes —- you choose your cup of tea and ensure that you enjoy it thoroughly.

Engaging in creative pursuits not only provides a welcome break from the monotony of studies but also fosters self-expression, boosts self-esteem, and enhances problem-solving skills. Nurturing your creativity can even lead to discovering hidden talents and potential career paths.

2. Immerse Yourself in Nature

Step away from the confines of your study space and immerse yourself in the calming embrace of nature. Take a walk in a nearby park, sit under a shady tree, or simply gaze at the starlit sky. Allah subhaanahu wa ta’aala says, “Eat of all the fruits and walk in the ways of your lord submissively. There comes forth from within it a beverage of many colors, in which there is healing for men; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who reflect” (Qur’an, 16:69). This is one of the many verses that talk about the healing properties of nature. We also find many scientific researches that support this verse.

Nature has a profound ability to soothe the mind, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being. Numerous studies have shown that spending time in nature can lower blood pressure, boost mood, and enhance cognitive function.

3. Embark on a Hiking Adventure

If you’re seeking an adrenaline rush and a chance to connect with nature, hiking is an excellent choice. Dedicate a day each week to explore hiking trails, surrounded by lush greenery and fresh air. When the mind is too cluttered with all the problems and challenges of this dunya, a walk through nature is one of the few things that can help declutter and bring a sense of peace and calm to the battered minds. When the dunya is weighing you down with all the obstacles it keeps throwing your way, go on a hike. The nature and all that it contains are beautiful reminders of Allah subhaanahu wa ta’aala’s promise to bring ease after hardship. After all, there is always sunshine after a heavy downpour. The rain alone serves as a reminder that there is hope no matter how dark the future seems.

Hiking offers a multitude of benefits, including physical exercise, stress reduction, and mental clarity. It’s also a great opportunity to bond with friends or family while enjoying the scenic beauty of nature. Spending time in nature with family and friends is a great way to make up for all the time spent in focusing on academics alone.

4. Indulge in the Joy of Baking

Who can resist the aroma of freshly baked cookies or the sight of fluffy cupcakes? Baking is an extremely fun activity for students of all grades, if they enjoy mixing things up and sharing the baked goods with others!

The process of kneading dough, measuring ingredients, and creating delectable treats can be incredibly therapeutic. Baking not only provides a sense of accomplishment but also allows you to express your creativity and share joy with loved ones.

Baking does not necessarily have to be following complex recipes. Even a two-minute mug cake can give you the break you need. All you need to make this simple recipe is 2 tbsp of milk, 1 tbsp of oil, 2 tbsp of flour, 3 tbsp of cocoa powder, ⅛ tbsp of baking powder, sugar according to your preference and the best ingredient to have ever existed— chocolate chips, or basically, just chocolate (best when measured with heart!)!

Watching the bun rise slowly or measuring chocolate chips with your heart while eating a few are little joys that people experience when baking. The entire process of baking is a de-stressing activity that manages to slowly clear the mind and give you a break from the challenges of academics.

5. Cherish Family Time

Family time fosters a sense of belonging, strengthens bonds, and provides emotional support. It’s an opportunity to share experiences, offer encouragement, and instill values that contribute to personal growth and well-being.

Spending time with loved ones especially during the developmental years of an individual is very essential to lay a strong foundation for personality development as they grow older. Studies have shown that children who spend quality time with their family are more likely to perform better academically and in all the spheres of life than children who do not spend much time with family.

A note to parents here, ensure that you make your child feel heard and seen. Spend some time having hearty conversations. Allot a few minutes everyday to reflect upon Qur’an or hadith.
